Guwahati: The new Chairman of North East Regional Youth Council (NERYC), Bishop George Pallipparambil, reminded the youth that they are the ‘now’ of the Church while addressing them at the General Body Meeting held at Social Forum, Guwahati on 4 February 2020.
Echoing the words of Pope Francis in his latest encyclical, Christus Vivit, the newly appointed NERYC Chairman highlighted the role laity had played in the growth of the Church in the North East Region in the past. “In every State in the Region, we have had some heroes and heroines who stood against all the odds for the growth of the Church in this region. We need such people today more than ever in our socio political context”, said the Salesian prelate.
Meeting the youth at the backdrop of the annual General Body Meeting of NERYC in the context of the upcoming National YCS/YSM Convention, to be held from 17 to 22 May at Umran, Meghalaya, Bishop George invited everyone to use the event to refocus on the individual role and responsibility towards the Church.
Convening the meeting, the Director of NERYC, Sister Bernadeth Kropi MSMHC, requested all the Youth Directors of the Region to cooperate and collaborate to make the event an occasion to revive the youth movements in the region.
The NERYC President, Bosco Debbarma, and Secretary, Subharna Dhan, thanked the participants from the seven states of the region for their whole hearted participation in the meeting.
The meeting concluded with the discussion on the various agenda related to the 3rd YCS/YSM National Convention in May 2020.
